US box office top 10 – W/E 20/07/14

Despite stiff competition from three new films, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes remains king of the chart spending a second week at number one and pushing it’s takings in the US alone just $150 million.

As said above three new films went into this weeks chart, firstly going in at number four was comedy Sex Tape, one place above that was animated sequel adventure Planes: Fire and Rescue.  The final new entry went to the second in The Purge series with The Purge: Anarchy which hit the number two spot.

New Releases – Can Dawn of the Planet of the Apes hold on to the top spot for a third week, if so then it has to beat off competition from comedy And so it Goes, action adventure Hercules and action film Lucy.

9. Maleficent – $3,302,000 – $228,367,000

8. How to Train your Dragon 2 – $3,800,000 – $160,672,000

7. 22 Jump Street – $4,700,000 – $180,509,000

6. Tammy – $7,605,000 – $71,253,000

5. Transformers: Age of Extinction – $10,000,000 – $227,157,000

4. Sex Tape – (NE) – $15,000,000

3. Planes: Fire and Rescue – (NE) – $18,000,000

2. The Purge: Anarchy – (NE) – $28,369,000

1. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes – $36,000,000 – $138,953,000
