UK box office top 10 – W/E 11/08/14

It looks like the strength of the Guardians of the Galaxy couldn’t hold off the might of Will, Simon, Jay and Neil, also known as the Inbetweeners from taking over the top of the charts.

The Inbetweeners opened up to a insane £12.5 million in it’s opening weekend, £2.7 million of that was in it’s opening day making it the highest opening for any film this year and putting the movie on course to beat the takings of the first one which ended with a impressive £45 million in it’s cinema run.

As for other new films in this weeks chart, well their wasn’t any as Planes: Fire and Rescue launched last week in Scotland and Ireland and it only features in this weeks chart thanks to it’s release in the rest of the UK.

Upcoming – Takings for the whole of August are on course for a record thanks to the takings of the Inbetweeners movie and that continue with this weeks set of releases thanks to the 3rd in the Expendables movie, with it getting a 12A certificate it should mean higher takings.

Other films on release are the expansion of animated football adventure The Unbeatables and the latest comedy starring Simon Pegg in Hector and the Search for Happiness.

US Chart

Over the pond in the US those hero’s in a half shell, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles found enough martial arts skills to beat off the Guardians of the Galaxy to find itself as the new number one film.

Other new entries in this weeks top 10 went to dance sequel Step Up All In which went in at number 6, drama The Hundred-Foot Journey at number four and disaster film Into the Storm at number 3.
