87th Oscar Winners


Before the 87th Academy Awards kicked off all eyes were starting to point towards Richard Linklater to take most of the big prizes on the night after it’s big wins in other award ceremonies, that didn’t go to plan thanks to Birdman which swooped in and took the main two awards leaving Boyhood with only the Best Supporting Actress for Patricia Arquette to comfort it.

On the night Birdman walked away with Best Film, Best Director for Alejandro González Iñárritu, Best Original Screenplay and Best Cinematography.

Matching Birdman on the night was the quirky comedy The Grand Budapest Hotel which also walked away with four awards followed closely behind by the fantastic Whiplash with three.

In the other main categories Eddie Redmayne picked up the Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in drama The Theory of Everything, Julianne Moore was favourite to pick up Best Actress for Still Alice and that went to plan and JK Simmons took home the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for Whiplash.

Looking at some of the other winners on the night, as predicted The Grand Budapest Hotel walked away with the design style categories taking Best Costume, Production Design, Make-Up and Hair, Interstellar took Best Visual Effects, Selma walked away with Best Original Song ahaed of The Lego Movie’s Everything is Awesome and The Imitation Game picked up the award for Best Adapted Screenplay.
