Monday Movie Show Catch Up (12/3/12)

Catch up with this week’s show with cinema reviews of John Carter starring Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, Willem DaFoe, Mark Strong and Dominic West plus we also review the thriller chronicling the final days of Edgar Allan Poe, The Raven, starring John Cusack and Luke Evans.  In the Blu-Ray/DVD part of the show we review the latest in the Twilight saga, Breaking Dawn: Part 1, Emma Stone and Viola Davis in comedy/drama The Help, Michelle Williams is Marilyn Monroe in My Week With Marilyn,  Kate Bosworth and James Marsden are terrorised in the remake of Straw Dogs, a case of mistaken identity in comedy Monte Carlo, and camping horror Evidence, and as usual we go through the latest movie news, UK Box office and DVD/Blu-Ray top 10.

This week in the cinema section we review The Raven, a fictional thriller chronicling the final days of Edgar Allan Poe starring John Cusack and Luke Evans plus a review of the latest Walt Disney big budget adventure John Carter starring Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, Willem DaFoe, Mark Strong and Dominic West, while on DVD and Blu-Ray we finally give our review of the penultimate in the Twilight saga with Breaking Dawn: Part 1, Emma Stone and Viola Davis in comedy/drama The Help, Michelle Williams is Marilyn Monroe in My Week With Marilyn,  Kate Bosworth and James Marsden are terrorised in the remake of Straw Dogs, a case of mistaken identity in comedy Monte Carlo, and camping horror Evidence, plus as usual the latest movie news, UK Box Office top 10, and DVD/Blu Ray top 10.

2012 Oscar Winners

When it comes to the Oscars every year there is a film that is tipped to win everything, that didn’t happen this year however the biggest winners on the night winning 5 awards was both The Artist and Hugo however The Artist went away with 3 of the main awards where’s Hugo only took away the technical awards.

 

The only other film to take away more than one award was The Iron Lady however again one of the awards was for a technical category, the rest of the awards were spread out between The Descendants, Midnight in Paris, The Help and Girl With the Dragon Tattoo to name a few.

BAFTA 2012 Winners

It seems that you don’t have to speak in a film to claim the plaudits during awards season as the silent black and white film The Artist proved at last night BAFTA’s taking a massive 7 awards home with it.

British films also did really well at the BAFTA’s last night with Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Senna and the Iron Lady taking 2 awards each alongside Hugo, however there were also wins for the fantastic Tyrannosaur, Beginners and Harry Potter making it a fantastic night for British Cinema

Other films that walked away with awards were animated film Rango, Spanish film The Skin i Live in, drama The Help and kids film.
