Trailer: Robocop

The first trailer for director José Padilha’s remake of Paul Verhoven’s original movie about a cop, killed in the line of duty and turned into a cyborg, with The Killing actor Joel Kinnaman taking over the role of Alex Murphy originally played by Peter Weller.

First Impressions: While I like some of what I see, including the casting of Samuel L Jackson, Gary Oldman and Michael Keaton, i have many more reservations about some of the differences they have made to the character. It does look like they are maybe trying to focus more on the question of how much of the man is left in the machine, but it’s other aspects such as the character’s wife (played by Abbie Cornish) being involved in the decision to change him into a cyborg, and his relationship with his son. Guess we’ll find out if this and any other changes made make for an improvement when Robocop is released on 7th February 2014.
